How Clever Landlords Don’t Let Their Profits Get Washed Away

With a vast array of cash registers on the market today, all designed with different aspects of trading in mind, the majority end up in establishments where food and drink are the order of the day. There are cash registers designed with this in mind, their keyboard layouts and department (items) buttons easy to discern. Cash tills made for pubs, bars and restaurants – like the Casio TE-4500F pictured below – also feature keyboards that are covered in their entirety by a wet cover.

A splash-proof wet cover is an essential, simple and cheap way of preventing the dreaded liquid damage that can so easily prevent a till from working. As you can see from the cash register above, the wet cover prevents any liquid seepage from either wet fingers or even mild spillages as the keyboard, buttons and components underneath are fully protected by the silicone cover.

The keyboard above from the Sharp A-307 is a good example of a cash register vulnerable in a pub/bar/restaurant environment, as all of its keys are exposed. Should a busy bartender use this till after pulling a few generous and frothy pints, that moisture from wet fingers will soon make its way down the sides of the keys and into areas containing circuit boards and components that don’t like getting wet.

Going back to there being a vast array of cash registers on the market, the Casio SE-C450 above is a cash till more suited to the drink/food environment than the Sharp A-307 as its department (items) keyboard features a wet cover. Although most of the ordering of drinks and food is done with this keyboard, the subtotal and other important functions needed during a transaction are still exposed.

If a cash register without a wet cover is suited more to your needs, the simple application of a silicone cover specifically made for the machine can be applied for less than £20. That £20 will give any landlord peace of mind that their expensive bit of kit isn’t going to get damaged during extreme busy periods where drinks are spilt and bartenders are working the tills flat out.
